Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition Enters Operational Activation Phase

JEDDAH, August 14 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — The Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition has entered its institutional and operational activation phase following its third planning meeting at the Western Fleet Command in Jeddah.
Representatives from 39 countries attended the meeting. Fifteen participating countries have signed the coalition’s joint statement, while 13 have completed their national procedures, signed the MMDC charter and formally announced their accession. The remaining countries are continuing the procedures required to join.
The coalition’s institutional structure is also taking shape. Its commander will be from Saudi Arabia, while the deputy commander for the first term will be from Pakistan. The command headquarters has been designated, the MMDC emblem has been adopted, and the organizational frameworks and reference manuals required for operations are being finalized.
Practical arrangements are underway to receive officers and personnel from member countries and integrate them into the joint command and staff structure. Personnel will also join the coalition’s maritime operations and coordination center and its intelligence center.
The MMDC is moving from establishing its frameworks to integrating the capabilities of member countries and developing operational readiness for its assigned defense missions.
The coalition aims to strengthen collective maritime security, protect freedom of navigation and safeguard maritime routes and straits. Its mandate also supports the continuity of international trade and global supply chains in accordance with the coalition’s charter, reference documents and international law.
