RIYADH, March 7, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said he apologized to neighboring countries that were targeted in recent Iranian attacks, adding that Tehran would halt such strikes unless Iran itself was attacked from those territories.
Pezeshkian said Iran’s three-member leadership council had been in contact with the country’s armed forces regarding the attacks.
He suggested miscommunication within military ranks may have contributed to the strikes, which occurred as Iran responded to U.S. and Israeli attacks on the country.
The comments were broadcast after drone and missile incidents were reported earlier on Saturday in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which plays a central role in the conflict, operates under the authority of the country’s supreme leader.
Israel said an airstrike at the start of the conflict on February 28 killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Pezeshkian said the deaths of senior leaders had affected command structures within the armed forces.
It remained unclear how much authority the president and the leadership council could exercise over the military.
Iranian state television continued broadcasting messages supporting ongoing military operations in the region following the president’s remarks.
