Iran claims control over stretches of UAE coastline, threatening near-total maritime siege of Gulf state

Riyadh, May 5 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Navy issued a map showing what it described as an expanded area of control near the Strait of Hormuz, including waters off key UAE ports, Iranian news agencies reported.

The claimed zone extends beyond the strait toward the Gulf of Oman and includes the UAE ports of Fujairah and Khorfakkan, both used for shipping outside the Hormuz chokepoint.

Fujairah is a major oil and shipping hub and sits as the end of a pipeline carrying crude from Abu Dhabi’s inland fields to the coast, allowing exports to bypass the strait.

Any attempt by Iran to enforce control over access to the ports would sharply raise pressure on the UAE and further threaten shipping routes during the regional conflict.

The development comes after the UAE said its air defences engaged Iranian missiles and drones, while Iran denied targeting the Gulf state.
