EU Condemns Iranian Attacks, Expresses Solidarity With Middle East Countries

Riyadh, March 10, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — The European Union expressed solidarity with countries across the Middle East and condemned attacks carried out by Iran against neighboring states, warning of serious risks to regional security and global energy stability.

In a joint statement, European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU strongly condemned what they described as unacceptable attacks targeting states in the region.

The statement followed a video conference with officials from the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Armenia, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman to discuss the latest developments related to Iran and their implications for regional stability and global energy security.

Costa and von der Leyen thanked regional leaders for supporting the repatriation of tens of thousands of European citizens stranded since the outbreak of hostilities. They said the European Union remains ready to support efforts aimed at de-escalation and a return to diplomacy.

The EU also called on Iran’s leadership to end its nuclear programme and limit its missile programme, while condemning what it described as repression and violence against Iranian citizens.

The statement reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment to protecting civilians and upholding international law, international humanitarian law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

EU officials also highlighted the role of the bloc’s maritime missions Aspides and Atalanta, which aim to protect key shipping routes and prevent disruptions to global supply chains, adding that maritime efforts could be strengthened if needed.

The European Union expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Lebanon and the impact of the regional crisis on civilians, including a growing number of displaced people.

European Commission President von der Leyen also announced the mobilization of RescEU emergency stockpiles to assist around 130,000 people in Lebanon, with the first humanitarian airbridge scheduled to depart on Wednesday.

Participants in the conference also discussed the challenges facing global energy security following attacks on critical infrastructure and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the need for closer cooperation with Middle Eastern partners.

EU leaders said coordination with regional countries would continue as the situation evolves, with the aim of supporting stability and security in the Middle East and the Gulf.
