Saudi Aramco's Discovery of Natural Gas Fields in the Empty Quarter Unveils Energy Potential

In a significant announcement, Minister of Energy HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz revealed that the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) has successfully discovered two natural gas fields in the vast expanse of the Empty Quarter. The newly identified fields, named Al-Hiran and Al-Mahakik, represent a substantial addition to Saudi Arabia's energy resources.

The discovery of the Al-Hiran natural gas field was confirmed as gas began to flow from the Hanifa reservoir in the Al-Hiran – 1 well. The well demonstrated a remarkable rate of 30 Million standard cubic feet (MMSCF) and 1,600 Barrels of Condensates daily (BCPD). Additionally, gas flowed from the Al-’Arab – C reservoir in the same field at a rate of 3.1 MMSCFD.

In tandem, the discovery of the Al-Mahakik natural gas field was validated as gas emanated from the Al-Mahakik – 2 well, registering a flow rate of 0.85 MMSCFD.

Furthermore, natural gas was identified in five reservoirs within previously discovered fields. Notable discoveries include the Jallah reservoir in the ‘Usaikerak field in the Empty Quarter, with gas flowing at an impressive rate of 46 MMSCFD. Another significant find was an additional natural gas reservoir in the Shadoun field, west of Haradh, where gas flowed from the ‘Unayzah – A reservoir at a rate of 15.5 MMSCFD, accompanied by approximately 460 BCPD.

Additional discoveries included ‘Unayzah B/C reservoirs in the Mazalij field, southwest of Dhahran, with gas flowing at a rate of 14 MMSCFD and about 4,150 BCPD. In the Al-Sarah reservoir in Al-Wadhihi field and the Al-Qusaibah reservoir in Awtad field, southwest of Hofuf city, natural gas flowed at rates of 11.7 MMSCFD and 5.1 MMSCFD, respectively, accompanied by approximately 57 BCPD.

Minister Abdulaziz extended his congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince on these significant discoveries. His wishes for continued growth, development, and prosperity underscore the importance of these findings for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people. The newly discovered natural gas fields in the Empty Quarter mark a notable advancement in Saudi Arabia's energy portfolio, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global energy landscape.
