Russia is poised to make a significant stride in international relations by considering the cancellation of visa requirements for visitors from several Middle Eastern nations. Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko made the groundbreaking announcement at the Eastern Economic Forum, indicating that Russia is actively working on abolishing visa requirements for select Asian countries, thereby promoting more accessible and robust diplomatic ties.
Among the countries expected to benefit from this potential policy shift are Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain. Russian State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov elaborated on this endeavor, revealing that Moscow is currently in the process of preparing intergovernmental agreements on visa-free travel with a total of 11 countries. These countries include only those from the Middle East but also nations from other parts of the world, such as Malaysia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Haiti, Zambia, Mexico, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Maxim Reshetnikov, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development, further emphasized the country’s commitment to facilitating visa-free travel, particularly with Middle Eastern nations. He stated, “We are exploring the topic of making the transition to visa-free travel. Countries of the Middle East and Southeast Asia are among those with which we interact”. Notably, Russia has offered completed visa abolishment to Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia.
