In a grand ceremony under the patronage of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), the eagerly anticipated 'Big Bad Wolf – Sharjah' was officially launched. This colossal book sale, recognized as the largest in the world, is a collaborative effort between SBA and Big Bad Wolf Ventures Sdn. The inaugural ceremony, graced by the presence of key figures including Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, Andrew Yap, the co-founder and managing director of Big Bad Wolf, and other distinguished guests, set the stage for the literary extravaganza. Following the ceremony, Sheikha Bodour embarked on a tour of the exhibition, engaging with publishers and exhibitors while exploring the extensive array of publications on display.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi emphasized the cultural significance of the event, stating, “Strengthening cultural diversity and enriching Arab culture with knowledge and creative works from different cultures is a central mission of Sharjah's cultural project as well as SBA’s directive." She further highlighted that the event aligns with Sharjah's commitment to becoming a hub for human culture under the guidance of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

With an expansive area of 4,000 sqm, the 'Big Bad Wolf – Sharjah' market boasts over 1 million books spanning various genres, including children's literature, science, history, and philosophy. Offering discounts of up to 85 percent, the literary extravaganza aims to make literature more accessible and affordable to all.

Established in 2019 through a partnership between SBA and Big Bad Wolf Ventures Sdn. Bhd., the event underscores the authority's commitment to supporting publishers and providing diverse reading choices in Sharjah, the UAE, and the wider region. Speaking at the event, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, expressed the authority's dedication to elevating reading standards globally and championing initiatives that revitalize the book industry.

"Sharjah has become a focal point and a source of aspiration for readers and those working in the book industry worldwide. Today, we offer them an opportunity to explore the latest and most important global releases, enriching their libraries and minds and strengthening their knowledge, which forms the bonds of relationship between them and their communities," stated Al Ameri. The 'Big Bad Wolf – Sharjah' exhibition stands as a testament to SBA's pivotal role in shaping the global cultural landscape and reinforcing its status as a hub for Arab culture.
