Qatari Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Announces Ramadan Crescent Sighting on March 10th

DOHA, Qatar - The State of Qatar's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, through its designated Crescent Sighting Committee, has issued a formal announcement inviting all Muslims residing within the country to participate in sighting the crescent moon signifying the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan. Observations are to take place on the evening of Sunday, March 10th, 2024.

The Committee encourages any individual who successfully sights the crescent moon to present their testimony in person at the Committee's headquarters situated within the Ministry building at Dafna Towers. This process will be facilitated by a dedicated meeting convened by the Committee immediately following the Maghrib (sunset) prayer.

Ramadan holds paramount significance within the Islamic calendar, representing a sacred period observed by Muslims globally. It is a month dedicated to profound spiritual reflection, fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayer, and acts of charity. Due to its basis on the lunar calendar, the precise date of Ramadan's commencement varies slightly year to year.

The official confirmation of Ramadan's commencement in Qatar remains contingent upon the successful sighting of the crescent moon by the designated Committee.
