Non-Profit Sector in Saudi Arabia Shows Continued Growth

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - The National Center for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector (NCDNPS) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reports positive developments in the sector's expansion during February 2024, as indicated by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The report highlights a surge in registrations, with 56 new private associations, 8 private institutions, and 21 family funds established across various priority development areas and regions throughout the Kingdom. This brings the total number of registered non-profit entities to 4,656.

Volunteer participation has also seen a remarkable increase, with over 113,000 individuals actively contributing their time and skills in diverse fields. These volunteers have collectively logged over 4 million hours, facilitating more than 43,000 volunteer opportunities.

The NCDNPS emphasized the sector's continuous growth, marked by rising numbers of non-profit entities, volunteers, and technical supervisory units within government agencies. The Center attributes this progress to collaborative efforts across the non-profit ecosystem and advancements in governance practices observed in 2023. This signifies the sector's commitment to fulfilling its targeted development roles.

In its supervisory and regulatory capacity, the NCDNPS has taken decisive actions against several non-compliant non-profit entities and individuals since the beginning of 2024. These actions included issuing warnings, dissolving and liquidating associations in cases of severe non-compliance, and referring entities to the Public Prosecution when necessary.

The NCDNPS underscores the importance of non-profit entities adhering to the established governing principles and regulations. It encourages entities to utilize established communication channels, including the unified call center (19918), the website (ncnp.gov.sa), and social media platforms, to maintain open communication with the Center. The Center emphasizes the need for continued collaboration between itself and non-profit entities to support the sector's development and maximize its social and economic impact in achieving the desired national goals.

The NCDNPS plays a vital role in organizing and empowering non-profit entities, facilitating their expansion into priority development areas. Additionally, it works to streamline government efforts encompassing licensing services, financial and administrative oversight, and enhanced coordination and support for the sector.
