Wild Lotus Shrub Reappears in Northern Borders Region After Near Extinction
Riyadh, October 1, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The wild lotus shrub, once threatened with extinction, has reemerged in the valleys of Saudi Arabia’s Northern Borders region, thanks to conservation efforts. Initiatives such as the Saudi Green Initiative and local nature reserves have played a crucial role in afforestation and land reclamation, aiding in the restoration of many native plants, including the wild lotus with its striking red flowers.
Nasser Al-Majlad, Chairman of the Aman Environmental Society, noted that the wild lotus, scientifically known as Lotus lanuginosus, thrives in the streams of the region’s valleys. The small, red flowers bloom during the summer months and are known by various local names.
This resurgence is seen as a success for Saudi Arabia’s environmental efforts to protect and preserve its natural landscapes and biodiversity.
