NEW YORK, May 8 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Waldorf Astoria New York will introduce new staff uniforms designed by British designer Nicholas Oakwell as part of its highly anticipated reopening this summer. The initiative is part of the hotel’s repositioning as Hilton’s luxury flagship property.

Oakwell, founder of NO Uniform, developed attire for roles across the hotel, including doormen, concierge staff, servers, security, and in-room dining. The designer emphasized functionality and durability, using washable and dry-cleanable materials, while avoiding nostalgic designs.

Among the standout pieces are cotton velvet jackets for Peacock Alley staff and washable sequin dresses for female bar employees, intended to combine comfort with visual impact.

Oakwell noted that the updated wardrobe aligns with the demographic shift in luxury hospitality. “Younger clients in their 20s and 30s are driving spending,” he said, highlighting the importance of appealing to a new generation of high-income travelers.

In addition to the uniforms, Oakwell is collaborating with the Waldorf Astoria on a capsule collection of couture gowns inspired by iconic women associated with the hotel, including members of the Astor family, Marilyn Monroe, and Rita Hayworth. The limited-edition line will be launched during New York Fashion Week in September and sold in a three-month pop-up store within the hotel.

Each gown will feature a narrative linking it to its historical muse. The designer referenced archival stories, including the hotel hosting the first Met Gala and Queen Elizabeth II’s overnight stay, as inspirations for the project.

Oakwell, who previously paused his couture house in 2015, also plans to relaunch in Paris during an upcoming haute couture season.
