UN Welcomes Outcomes of Riyadh Talks Hosted by Saudi Arabia, Hailing Progress on Black Sea Navigation and Global Food Security

RIYADH, March 27, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the results of the high-level talks hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine, emphasizing the significance of the agreements reached in advancing regional and global stability.

According to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, one of the most critical outcomes of the discussions held in Riyadh from March 23 to 25 was the agreement to ensure freedom of navigation in the Black Sea. He described this commitment as a key contribution to global food security and supply chain resilience, stressing the importance of preserving vital trade routes from both Ukraine and Russia to international markets.

Dujarric noted that the United Nations has been consistently engaged in this area, especially following the letters sent by Secretary-General Guterres to Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Vladimir Putin, and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on February 7, 2024. These letters outlined a proposed framework for ensuring safe and unrestricted navigation in the Black Sea.

He added that the UN continues to support the implementation of the memorandum of understanding with the Russian Federation, aimed at facilitating the export of Russian food products and fertilizers to global markets—a key element in addressing the wider challenge of global food insecurity.

The talks in Riyadh, held under the patronage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, brought together delegations from the United States, Russia, and Ukraine, resulting in a series of agreements to reduce tensions and reinforce international security cooperation. The Kingdom’s mediation efforts have been widely praised by international leaders for their constructive role in promoting dialogue and peace.
