Dubai, UAE - The United Arab Emirates' moon-sighting committee has issued a formal invitation to all Muslims residing within the country to participate in sighting the crescent moon signifying the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan. The observation will take place on the evening of Sunday, March 10th, 2024.
The committee encourages any individual who successfully sights the crescent moon to report their observation directly to the committee by calling 02 692 1166.
Ramadan represents a significant and highly anticipated period within the Islamic calendar. Observed by Muslims around the globe, it's a month dedicated to fasting, prayer, introspection, and charitable acts. Due to its basis on the lunar calendar, the precise date of Ramadan varies slightly each year.
The official commencement of Ramadan in the UAE will be contingent upon confirmation by the moon-sighting committee that the crescent moon has been sighted.
