Alaska, August 16, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he held a “very profound” and “extremely productive” meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where the two leaders discussed the conflict in Ukraine and broader U.S.-Russia relations.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Trump said “many points were agreed to” and that he would share the results with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “Now it’s really up to President Zelenskyy to get it done,” Trump told Fox News in an interview taped after the meeting, adding that both Putin and Zelensky want him to attend a potential future meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders to discuss peace.
Putin described the discussions as a step toward resolving the conflict. “I expect that today’s agreements will be the starting point not only for the solution of the Ukrainian issue but also will help us bring back business-like and pragmatic relations between Russia and the U.S.,” he said, while inviting Trump to Moscow for a follow-up meeting.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called the talks “very positive,” saying they would allow the two countries to “confidently continue moving forward together on the path of seeking resolution options.”
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, through his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, welcomed the continuation of U.S.-Russia dialogue and reiterated the UN’s call for an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine as a first step toward peace.
