Riyadh, May 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday that the crescent moon marking the start of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted, confirming the beginning of the Islamic month in which the annual Hajj pilgrimage takes place.
According to the court, Hajj 1446 AH will begin on June 4, with pilgrims gathering in Mina, known as the Tent City, for the start of the rites. The Day of Arafah, the pinnacle of the pilgrimage, will fall on June 5, and Eid Al-Adha will be observed by Muslims worldwide on June 6.
The announcement followed an earlier request from the court urging citizens and residents to participate in moon sighting efforts on Tuesday evening, corresponding to Dhu al-Qi’dah 29.
The Saudi government has declared a weeklong Eid Al-Adha holiday for workers in both the public and private sectors, allowing millions of citizens and residents to observe the occasion with family and community.
Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is required once in a lifetime for all Muslims who are physically and financially able to perform it.
