Riyadh, May 27 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — The Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has called on Muslims across the Kingdom to participate in sighting the crescent moon of Dhu al-Hijjah on the evening of Tuesday, Dhu al-Qi'dah 29, 1446 AH, corresponding to May 28, 2024.
In an official statement issued Monday, the court requested that individuals who observe the crescent—whether with the naked eye or through binoculars—report their sighting to the nearest court and submit their testimony. Alternatively, witnesses may contact the nearest center for assistance in relaying the information to judicial authorities.
The court also encouraged those capable of moon sighting to join official committees designated for this purpose in various regions of the Kingdom, describing the effort as a beneficial religious contribution to the Muslim community.
The sighting of the Dhu al-Hijjah crescent determines the beginning of the Islamic lunar month that includes Hajj and Eid al-Adha, among the most important observances in the Islamic calendar.
