Saudi Fashion Commission Launches Intellectual Property Guide for Designers

Riyadh, July 9 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Fashion Commission has launched the Intellectual Property and Designers' Rights Protection Guide for the fashion industry, in collaboration with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), the commission said in a statement on Wednesday.

The guide is part of ongoing efforts to empower the Kingdom’s fashion sector and support its creative community by fostering an environment that protects designers throughout the product value chain.

The initiative aims to serve as a practical reference for designers to benefit from intellectual property laws, register and protect their innovative designs, and secure legal rights. It also seeks to promote a culture of creativity and encourage new designs while safeguarding against replication and intellectual theft.

The guide covers four key areas: patents for new inventions and technologies in fabric and garment production; industrial designs for decorative patterns and aesthetic elements; copyright for artistic works such as illustrations and patterns; and trademarks for logos and symbols that distinguish products in the marketplace.

Designers and brand owners can access the guide through the commission’s official website. SAIP also receives public rights complaints via its website from rights holders or their representatives concerning violations under the Copyright Protection Law and the Trademarks Law, the statement said.
