Saudi Arabia to Host Sotheby’s First Auction in 2025 in Historic Diriyah
Riyadh, November 10 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Sotheby’s is set to hold its first auction in Saudi Arabia in 2025, choosing Diriyah, the historic heart of Riyadh, as the host venue. The landmark event, scheduled for February 8, will include a week-long exhibition beginning in early February, providing visitors with free access to view the exclusive items prior to the auction.
Titled "Origins," the auction will be split into two parts: the first focused on artwork by Saudi artists alongside historical pieces from globally renowned names, while the second part will showcase an eclectic range of high-value items, including luxury cars, jewelry, handbags, watches, and unique memorabilia. Sotheby’s aims to draw global interest to Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning art and cultural scene with this first-of-its-kind event.
“This is a very vital time for culture in Saudi Arabia, and Sotheby’s has supported this growing interest for years,” a Sotheby’s spokesperson commented. “We are committed to enriching the country’s art scene and empowering the young Saudi population.”
Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO of Diriyah, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the event, stating, “It is a great honor for us to host Sotheby’s first international art auction in Saudi Arabia. Diriyah, with its rich heritage spanning three centuries, is the ideal location to welcome such a prestigious event to our Kingdom.”
Sotheby’s relationship with Saudi Arabia dates back to 2013 with its first exhibition, followed by the country’s first charity auction in 2017, and further involvement in cultural events like the Riyadh International Book Fair. Hosting its first full-scale auction in the Kingdom highlights the Kingdom's growing cultural significance on the global stage and underscores Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the art and luxury markets.
