RIYADH, February 3, 2026 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed an agreement on renewable energy power plant projects during the official visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the Kingdom, covering solar power projects in Türkiye with total installed capacity of up to 5,000 megawatts, SPA reported.
The agreement was signed in Riyadh by Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
It aims to enhance cooperation in renewable energy and green technologies and to support the development and implementation of projects intended to diversify the energy mix, strengthen energy security and advance the transition towards a low-carbon economy.
The agreement includes two phases. Phase one totals 2,000 megawatts and comprises two solar projects located in Sivas and Karaman. Phase two adds a further 3,000 megawatts to be developed under frameworks to be agreed by both parties.
Phase one involves investment of nearly $2 billion and is expected to supply electricity to more than two million Turkish households. The generated electricity is to be purchased by a Turkish state-owned company for 30 years, with local equipment and service providers to be used to the maximum extent during implementation.
Both sides described the agreement as a step towards deepening the investment partnership between the two countries, including cooperation aligned with international best practices, knowledge transfer and capacity building.
