Saudi Arabia is transforming its tourism and entertainment sector with a series of mega projects that will offer a variety of attractions and experiences for visitors. The kingdom plans to develop 24 theme parks, 420 entertainment centres and 35 entertainment-based venues by 2030, with the aim of attracting over 100 million visitors annually by then. This is part of the Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy and enhance the quality of life.

Some of the theme parks that are planned or already operating in Saudi Arabia include:

- Al-Shalla Them Park in Jeddah, attracts over 1 million visitors every year and offers a roller coaster, a Ferris wheel, an ice skating rink, a lagoon, and a pirate ship.

- SEVEN’s Transformers theme park, which will span more than 10,000 sq m and feature rides and attractions based on the popular franchise. SEVEN is investing more than SR50 billion ($13 billion) to build 21 entertainment destinations in 14 cities in Saudi Arabia.

- Via Riyadh, a luxury destination that features upscale retail stores, fine-dining restaurants, cinemas, and theatres for live performances. It was constructed in just 20 months and highlights Riyadh’s identity and culture.

The tourism and entertainment sector will also create thousands of jobs and opportunities for Saudis, especially the young and talented population. According to the General Entertainment Authority, more than 350 theatres and 2,500 screens will open in the kingdom over the next five years, adding over 30,000 jobs by 2030. The gaming industry is expected to grow 250 percent by 2030, creating a vibrant and creative scene for gamers and developers. The sector will also support other industries such as hospitality, retail, transport and culture.

Saudi Arabia’s tourism and entertainment boom is a testament to the vision and leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has initiated several reforms and initiatives to modernize the kingdom and open it up to the world. The kingdom is also committed to preserving its rich heritage and culture, as well as protecting its natural resources and environment. The tourism and entertainment sector will showcase the best of Saudi Arabia to the world, while enhancing the happiness and well-being of its people.
