Saudi Arabia's Mahd Sports Academy Appoints New Board Of Directors





Mahd Sports Academy, a state-of-the-art facility that aims to discover and nurture talented athletes in Saudi Arabia, has announced the appointment of its new board of directors for a three-year term.


The board consists of five members, including two representatives from the government, namely the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education, and three independent members, namely Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Abdulaziz Ahmad Baeshen, Dr. Maha bin Ahmed Al-Juffali, Jose Mourinho, and Ioan Lupescu.


The appointment of the board was approved by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister; who is also the patron of the academy.


The Minister of Sport and Chairman of the academy's Board of Directors, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal Al Saud, expressed his gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for their support and guidance for the sports sector in the Kingdom.


He also praised the qualification and expertise of the board members, especially the two international figures, Josse Mourinho and Ioan Lupescu, who are both renowned for their achievements and contributions in the field of football.


Mourinho is a Portuguese professional football manager who has won multiple league titles and cups in Portugal, England, Italy, and Spain.


Lupescu is a Romanian former football player and coach, who represented his country in the two FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships. He is currently the technical director of the Romania Football Federation.


The minister said the board will work to achieve significant advancements in talent identification across various sports and to cultivate a new generation of athletes that will represent the Kingdom in both continental and international tournaments.


He added that the academy will also focus on developing the physical, mental, and social skills of the young talents, as well as providing them with academic and vocational education.
