Riyadh, August 7, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi Arabia is undergoing a historic transformation as it prepares to host a series of major international events, including the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, Expo 2030, the 2029 Asian Winter Games, and the 2034 FIFA World Cup. These events are positioning the Kingdom as a key global destination for sport, culture, and innovation.
According to a recent report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), hosting these events is expected to significantly accelerate the Kingdom’s non-oil economic growth. The IMF projects non-oil GDP to rise to 3.5% in the medium term, driven by increased investment in infrastructure, tourism, construction, hospitality, and transportation.
The multi-year calendar of global events aligns with the goals of Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s national transformation program aimed at diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on oil revenues.
In preparation for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, the Kingdom is constructing and upgrading stadiums to meet international standards. For the 2029 Asian Winter Games, Saudi Arabia is developing purpose-built facilities in Trojena, a mountainous region within the NEOM megaproject. Trojena is expected to serve as a model for hosting winter sports in a desert country and is viewed as a strategic engine of long-term economic development.
The IMF report also emphasized the potential for job creation across various sectors. Expanded participation of Saudi women in the workforce is identified as a key outcome of this transformation, in line with national policies aimed at enhancing gender inclusivity in the labor market.
Economists believe the long-term legacy of these global events will strengthen Saudi Arabia’s standing in the international arena and contribute to sustainable growth in tourism, employment, and investment.
