Saudi Arabia’s Al-Jubeir calls for ceasefire in Gaza, support for Syria and Sudan at Arab League summit

BAGHDAD, May 18 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Member, and Climate Envoy Adel Al-Jubeir led Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the 34th Regular Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level and the 5th Regular Session of the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, held Saturday in Baghdad.
Delivering the Kingdom’s address, Al-Jubeir conveyed greetings from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and expressed hopes for a successful summit outcome.
Al-Jubeir emphasized the need to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Gaza, condemning continued violations by Israeli occupation authorities and reaffirming the Kingdom’s rejection of forced displacement or imposed solutions that disregard Palestinian aspirations.
The minister also denounced recent Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, calling for increased Arab efforts to uphold Syria’s sovereignty and support recovery and reconstruction. He praised the decision by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to lift sanctions on Syria, describing it as a significant opportunity to advance development and stability.
On Sudan, Al-Jubeir reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to facilitating dialogue among conflicting parties, calling for a complete ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the preservation of Sudan’s unity and institutions.
Regarding Yemen, the minister reiterated support for a Yemeni-led political process and emphasized the importance of regional and international coordination to achieve lasting peace.
He also underlined Saudi Arabia’s commitment to maritime security and freedom of navigation, and expressed support for efforts by Lebanon’s leadership to implement institutional reforms and ensure that all arms remain under the state’s authority.
In closing, Al-Jubeir called for enhanced joint Arab action to confront shared challenges and maintain the region’s path toward stability and sustainable development.
