Riyadh, August 21, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Sand and Dust Storm Regional Center said Thursday that the Kingdom recorded a 53% decrease in the frequency of sand and dust storms, as well as airborne dust, between January and July 2025 compared to historical averages for the same period.
Executive Director Jumaan Al-Qahtani said monitored data showed monthly declines in storm activity, including an 80% drop in January, 40% in February, 75% in March, 41% in April, 40% in May, 59% in June, and 41% in July.
He said the reduction reflects national environmental initiatives, particularly the Saudi Green Initiative, along with cloud seeding programs, vegetation cover expansion, controlled grazing measures, and the role of royal reserves in protecting ecosystems. Positive shifts in regional air mass patterns also contributed to the improvement.
The center said the results indicate progress in implementing national plans to address weather-related phenomena and advance environmental sustainability in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
