Saudi Arabia Railways Announces Full Readiness of Mashaer Metro Train for 1446 AH Hajj Season

Riyadh, June 3, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) announced on Tuesday the full operational readiness of the Mashaer Metro Train for the 1446 AH Hajj season, with operations set to begin on Dhul Al-Hijjah 7.

SAR said preparations were completed in coordination with relevant security and service authorities as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance transportation systems and improve service quality during Hajj.

As part of its preparation, SAR conducted nearly 12,000 trial trips since January, along with four full-scale simulations replicating Hajj conditions to test the readiness of systems, trains, and stations.

The Mashaer Metro Train operates on five service patterns tailored to the Hajj rituals, making it a unique transport system globally. During the season, the train is scheduled to run over 2,000 trips, aiming to transport more than two million passengers with high efficiency and precise organization.

Extensive maintenance and rigorous testing have been carried out to ensure all facilities and stations meet safety and quality standards. The metro connects nine stations across Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina, with its final station at level four of the Jamarat Bridge, enhancing smooth movement and pilgrim safety.

The Mashaer Metro Train is considered one of the region’s leading sustainable transport projects, operating a fleet of 17 trains, each with a capacity of 3,000 passengers, enabling total transport capacity exceeding 72,000 passengers per hour. The system contributes to reducing congestion, lowering carbon emissions, and delivering a smart, safe, and environmentally friendly travel experience.

The initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by providing reliable, efficient, and sustainable transportation for pilgrims, while showcasing the Kingdom’s advanced infrastructure and service quality.

The operation and maintenance of the Mashaer Metro Train were entrusted to SAR under Cabinet Resolution No. 538, dated 16/9/1440 AH, to enhance operational efficiency and service quality during Hajj.
