Saudi Arabia Participates in BRICS Plus Summit 2024, Led by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan

Riyadh, October 25, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah led the Kingdom’s delegation at the BRICS Plus Summit 2024 in Kazan, Russia, as Saudi Arabia participated as an invited country to join the BRICS group.

During the summit, Prince Faisal delivered a speech on behalf of King Salman and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, conveying their greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the leaders of the BRICS nations. Prince Faisal expressed appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the Saudi delegation.

In his remarks, Prince Faisal underscored the strengthening relations between Saudi Arabia and BRICS countries, noting that the volume of bilateral trade between the Kingdom and BRICS nations surpassed $196 billion in 2023, accounting for 37% of Saudi Arabia’s total foreign trade. He emphasized that the summit offers a valuable platform to enhance cooperation with BRICS nations to tackle global challenges and support sustainable development.

Addressing international issues, Prince Faisal voiced Saudi Arabia’s concern over escalating global tensions, stating, “At a time when we need to confront global challenges, we witness rising tensions, polarization, and alignments that weaken the flexibility and effectiveness of multilateral forums. The Kingdom supports strengthening international institutions to meet the needs of all countries.”

Prince Faisal also addressed developments in Gaza, highlighting the Kingdom’s concern over the ongoing Israeli aggression and its impact on regional and international security. He warned of the potential escalation of the conflict to Lebanon, urging an immediate ceasefire, the provision of humanitarian aid, the release of hostages, and a serious commitment to achieving lasting peace.

The Foreign Minister reiterated Saudi Arabia’s efforts to promote peace in the region, mentioning the launch of the “Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” initiative last month, in partnership with international actors. He emphasized, “Granting the Palestinian people the right to self-determination is the only path to sustainable peace,” and praised the BRICS nations for their support of the Palestinian cause and their commitment to a solution based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestinian state.

In conclusion, Prince Faisal affirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with BRICS nations and expanding cooperation across all sectors, with the goal of fostering global development and prosperity.

The summit was attended by Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Russia, Abdulrahman bin Sulaiman Al-Ahmad, along with senior officials including Abdulrahman Aldawood, Director General of the Office of the Foreign Minister, Shaher Al-Khonaini, Director General of International Organizations, and Mohammed Alyahya, Advisor to the Foreign Minister.
