Saudi Arabia Launches Global Water Organization Headquarters in Riyadh with Eight Founding Member States

Riyadh, May 29, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Global Water Organization (GWO) officially launched its operations from its headquarters in Riyadh. The event marked a significant milestone in the international community’s efforts to address water-related challenges through comprehensive and cooperative approaches.
During a high-level ceremony attended by dignitaries and representatives from founding member states, the organization’s charter was formally signed. Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah conveyed the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH the Crown Prince, highlighting the importance of global coordination in water resource management.
“The launch of the Global Water Organization affirms Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthening international initiatives and addressing global challenges through partnerships based on cooperation,” said Prince Faisal. He added that the Kingdom will provide financial and logistical support to the organization over the next five years and called on countries and private sector entities worldwide to join the initiative.
Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley emphasized the role of the organization in reinforcing international responsibility to preserve water resources. “Water is not only a resource but a foundation for economic and social development and global stability,” Alfadley noted.
He described the Global Water Organization as “a collective global mind” aimed at transforming traditional water management through integrated water cycle systems, economic innovation, financing models, and active private sector involvement. Alfadley stressed that beyond scarcity, the organization will address timely and equitable access to water and its links to health, food security, economic development, and climate resilience.
The founding members that signed the charter include:
Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Spain, Senegal, Pakistan, the Hellenic Republic (Greece), and Mauritania.
With a mission rooted in research, expertise sharing, and innovation, the Global Water Organization represents a turning point in international cooperation, aiming to ensure the sustainability of global water resources and bolster the capabilities of developing nations in particular.
