Paris, November 5, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia inaugurated the first-ever Arab Week at UNESCO in Paris, an initiative organized by the Arab Group at the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The event, held at UNESCO headquarters, marked a historic milestone as the first cultural gathering of its kind in the Arab world in over fifty years.

The opening ceremony was attended by an impressive array of dignitaries, including permanent Arab representatives, ambassadors, Arab and international diplomats in France, as well as key UNESCO officials and leaders. The event was officially launched by Jordanian Ambassador to France Leena Al-Hadid, who also chairs the Arab Group at UNESCO. In her speech, Al-Hadid underscored the significance of this initiative, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world and its immense contributions to global civilization in fields such as science, philosophy, literature, and the arts.

Al-Hadid expressed deep gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its pivotal role in initiating and supporting Arab Week at UNESCO. She extended special thanks to Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan for his unwavering efforts in bringing this event to fruition, enabling Arab nations to share their cultural legacies on a global stage.

The event showcases the cultural heritage of 22 Arab countries, each represented by booths displaying artifacts, historical information, and elements of their civilizations. These booths provide interactive experiences, allowing visitors to engage with and learn about the diverse cultural identities of the Arab world. The exhibition aims to foster cultural exchange and strengthen ties between Arab nations and international audiences.

Arab Week at UNESCO also features seven in-depth seminars covering a wide range of topics, including language and calligraphy, Arabic literature, artificial intelligence, education and fine arts, intangible cultural heritage, and world heritage. These seminars have drawn the participation of academic institutions, cultural experts, and specialists from around the world. The discussions aim to generate innovative ideas rooted in centuries-old Arab heritage and to promote a deeper understanding of the Arab world’s historical and cultural contributions.

This unique cultural event underscores the commitment of Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations to promoting their heritage and engaging in meaningful cultural dialogue on a global platform. It also reflects UNESCO’s mission of fostering cultural understanding and appreciation among nations.
