In a resounding victory, the Saudi capital, Riyadh, secured the privilege of hosting the prestigious World Expo in 2030, triumphing over competing bids from Italy and South Korea. The announcement was made at the general assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris, where Riyadh garnered an overwhelming 119 votes, far surpassing South Korea's Busan with 29 votes and Rome, Italy, with 17 votes. The Expo, scheduled to unfold from October 2030 to March 2031, will center around the theme, "The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow."

The winning bid was the culmination of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman's active involvement in securing Riyadh as the host city. The Kingdom's success in clinching the Expo follows a series of ambitious events hosted by Saudi Arabia, underscoring its growing role on the global stage. Notably, Saudi Arabia is set to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, having emerged as the sole bidder for this prestigious football event.

With roots tracing back to the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, the World Expo has evolved into a months-long mega event designed to address contemporary challenges. The event, held every five years, attracts millions of visitors and is regulated by the Paris-based BIE, comprising 182 member states who cast votes for the winning host city. Riyadh's success in securing the Expo attests to its standing as a dynamic and visionary global destination.
