Prince William and Princess Kate Visit Scottish Isles to Mark 14th Wedding Anniversary

The Prince and Princess of Wales, regarded as one of the world’s most glamorous royal couples, chose to mark the occasion with a two-day visit to Scotland rather than celebrating privately at home. Their visit to the Hebrides archipelago underscores their longstanding personal connection to Scotland, where they first met as students at the University of St Andrews more than two decades ago.

Prince William, the heir to the British throne, married Catherine Middleton on April 29, 2011, in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey witnessed by millions around the globe.

Beginning their anniversary visit in the colorful town of Tobermory, renowned for its brightly painted houses overlooking the harbor, the couple appeared relaxed as they greeted well-wishers to the sound of a traditional bagpiper. The trip marks a rare joint public outing for the couple since the Princess began a course of preventative chemotherapy for cancer earlier this year, from which she is now in remission. The couple shares three children: Prince George, 11; Princess Charlotte, 9; and Prince Louis, 7.

Prince William, who holds the title Lord of the Isles, has previously spoken of his strong personal ties to Scotland. “Scotland is incredibly important to me and will always have a special place in my heart,” he said in 2021. “George, Charlotte and Louis already know how dear Scotland is to both of us... We have no doubt they will grow up sharing our love and connection to Scotland.”
