Minister of Environment Releases 15 Arabian Sand Gazelles at Buraydah Oasis Park to Boost Biodiversity
Riyadh, October 20, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, and Chairman of the National Center for Wildlife (NCW), Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley, has overseen the release of 15 Arabian Sand Gazelles at Buraydah Oasis Park in the Qassim Region. This event marks the start of the 2024-2025 wildlife release season and is part of the NCW's breeding and reintroduction program for endangered species.
The initiative, aimed at restoring ecological balance and promoting environmental sustainability, reflects ongoing collaboration between environmental sectors to enhance biodiversity in the region. It is also part of broader efforts to rehabilitate ecosystems and bolster Saudi Arabia’s environmental heritage.
Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Qurban, CEO of the NCW, emphasized the significance of this release, which was carried out in partnership with the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) and the National Water Company (NWC). The reintroduction of Arabian Sand Gazelles is designed to enrich the biodiversity of the oasis, benefiting both resident and migratory species recorded in the area.
Dr. Qurban also highlighted how these initiatives support ecotourism and create economic opportunities for the local community. He affirmed the NCW’s commitment to the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) and the National Strategy for Environmental Conservation, in line with Vision 2030 goals to improve the quality of life and create a positive environmental impact.
