Madinah, May 29, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Madinah Region has emerged as the third-largest date-producing area in the Kingdom, with an annual yield of approximately 344,000 tons from more than eight million palm trees, according to a recent report issued by the Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah Chamber of Commerce.

The report highlights the regional rankings for date production in Saudi Arabia by the end of 2023:

  • Qassim Region led with 578,100 tons, representing 30% of total production

  • Riyadh Region followed with 453,100 tons (24%)

  • Madinah Region produced 343,100 tons (18%)

  • Eastern Region contributed 258,700 tons (14%)

Madinah’s date sector is widely recognized for its premium quality dates, offering competitive advantages for agricultural investment. The report outlined a range of opportunities for the business sector, including the establishment of modern farms using advanced irrigation systems, and the expansion of organic date cultivation to meet growing demand for natural and health-conscious products.

The sector also presents robust potential in date-based manufacturing, particularly in the production of date paste (as a natural sweetener), date syrup, and various value-added goods including sweets, pastries, beverages, and energy supplements aimed at health markets.

Furthermore, the report emphasized the importance of export development, encouraging the launch of specialized companies that can elevate packaging and branding standards to meet global market requirements. New ventures could explore export markets across Europe, Asia, and North America.

Finally, the report pointed to sustainability-driven innovations, such as collecting date seeds for animal feed, and utilizing palm by-products for the production of eco-friendly materials, including industrial wood substitutes—presenting a comprehensive vision for maximizing the economic and environmental impact of the region’s date industry.
