Kuwait’s Amir receives IOC President and Saudi sports minister during regional Olympic meetings

KUWAIT CITY, May 12 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah received International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Dr. Thomas Bach, IOC President-Elect Kirsty Coventry, and Saudi Minister of Sport Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal at Bayan Palace on Sunday.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of Kuwait’s hosting of the 37th meeting of the presidents of Olympic committees from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia.

Discussions focused on the relationship between the Olympic movement in Asia—particularly in the Gulf region—and the IOC. The talks also addressed the upcoming leadership transition at the IOC, as Kirsty Coventry is set to assume the presidency on June 23, 2025.
