King Charles III Makes William Prince Of Wales

LONDON - William is now the Prince of Wales, King Charles III said in his first televised speech on Friday.

'Today I am proud to create him Prince of Wales. The country whose title I've been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty', he said.

'With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations', the King added.

They are previously known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

William is first in line to the throne. He served in the military from 2006 to 2013, participating in more than 150 helicopter search and rescue operations.

The new Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, have said they will 'approach their roles in the modest and humble way they've approached their work previously', a royal source told CNN.

'The couple is focused on deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time', they said.

The Princess of Wales said she 'appreciates the history associated with this role but will understandably want to look to the future as she creates her own path'.
