One of the most beloved books of all time, The Little Prince, has been transformed into a dazzling theatrical spectacle at Ithra, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
The show, which runs from June 15 to June 25, 2023, is a collaboration between Broadway Entertainment Group and Ithra, a cultural hub that aims to inspire creativity and innovation in the Kingdom.
The Little Prince is based on the classic novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, a French writer, and aviator who wrote the story while living in exile during World War II. The book tells the tale of a young prince who leaves his tiny planet to explore the universe, meeting various characters along the way, such as a fox, a rose, and a pilot.
The stage adaptation combines dance, music, acrobatics, and stunning visuals to bring the story to life. The show features an international cast of performers, including dancers from the renowned Ballet Preljocaj, and a score by French composer Nicolas Errera.
The show is directed by Anne Tournie, who said she wanted to capture the essence of the book and its universal themes of love, friendship, and imagination.
“The Little Prince is a timeless masterpiece that speaks to everyone, regardless of age or culture”, she said. “It is a poetic and philosophical journey that invites us to look at the world with fresh eyes and to rediscover the beauty and mystery of life”.
The show is part of Ithra’s Theater program, which showcases live local and international productions that reinforce Saudi social and cultural values. The Theater also sets the stage for the next generation of theater experts, producers, and artists of Saudi Arabia’s performing arts industry.
The Little Prince is one of the most anticipated events of the year at Ithra, which has been hosting a variety of programs and exhibitions since its opening in 2018. Ithra is a flagship initiative of Saudi Aramco that aims to enrich cultural scene in the Kingdom and beyond.
