PARIS, June 22 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Iranian regional officials confirmed on Sunday that the country’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan have been targeted in airstrikes, according to reports by state-affiliated media agencies Fars and IRNA.
“A few hours ago, following activation of Qom air defense systems and identification of hostile targets, a part of the area of Fordow nuclear site was attacked by enemy air forces,” a spokesperson for Qom’s crisis management center said.
The Fordow facility, located deep within the mountains of northern Iran, is considered one of the country’s most fortified nuclear sites and houses advanced centrifuges capable of enriching uranium to high levels. Due to its depth, military analysts have previously assessed that only U.S. bunker-buster munitions could significantly damage the site.
In separate comments, the Deputy Security Governor of Isfahan confirmed that nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz, both located in central Iran, were also targeted.
“We witnessed intrusions near the nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz,” the official said, noting that air defense systems were activated in response and that several explosions were heard in the vicinity.
According to Iranian media, the facilities had already been evacuated prior to the attacks. No official casualty figures or damage assessments were released at the time of reporting.
The strikes follow heightened regional tensions after recent declarations from U.S. and Israeli officials concerning Iran’s nuclear capabilities. There has been no immediate comment from the Iranian Ministry of Defense or international watchdogs.
