Mecca, June 26 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The new Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba, unveiled today in a ceremonial replacement marking the start of the Hijri year 1447 AH, features Quranic inscriptions rendered in Thuluth Jali Murakkab, one of the most revered and complex forms of Arabic calligraphy.

The script, known for its intricate structure, elegant form, and ceremonial significance, was selected for its ability to accommodate a high volume of interwoven text within limited space—enhancing the visual harmony and sanctity of the Kiswa. It has long been considered the most refined of Arabic scripts, used historically in religious and state functions.

The Kiswa was crafted over the course of 11 months at the King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa by a team of 154 highly trained Saudi professionals. The meticulous process involved weaving, embroidery, and the application of precision calligraphy using gold-plated and pure silver threads.

The ceremonial replacement took place at dawn in Mecca and was broadcast live across the Islamic world, coinciding with the first day of Muharram 1447 AH. The event underscored Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to preserving Islamic tradition, heritage, and craftsmanship at the highest level.
