Hermès Runway Show Interrupted by PETA Protestors Over Exotic Skins

Riyadh, October 2, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Hermès Spring/Summer runway show in Paris, designed by Nadege Vanhee-Cybulski, was briefly interrupted on Saturday by three animal rights activists from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The protestors disrupted the showcase, which featured a collection of mesh crop tops and calfskin coats in earthy tones, calling for the luxury brand to cease the use of exotic skins.

The show had begun with a series of light, beige looks, including loose trousers and suede coats, when the first protestor stormed the catwalk holding a sign that demanded Hermès end its use of exotic animal skins. Security swiftly removed the protestor, allowing the next model to continue the show in a leather bomber jacket paired with high-waisted culottes.

Shortly after, a second protestor jumped onto the runway, only to be intercepted by security guards before another model debuted a sheer ivory top and matching trousers. Despite the disruptions, the show proceeded, featuring flowing skirts with thigh-high slits, bright pink dresses, and belted outerwear.

Hermès, renowned for its coveted Birkin bags, which often feature exotic skins and fetch prices in the hundreds of thousands of dollars at auctions, has been a frequent target of PETA protests. The luxury label has faced ongoing pressure to reconsider its use of such materials in its designs, though it remains a fixture of high fashion runways.
