Dubai, May 21 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) — Dubai-based carrier flydubai announced on Wednesday that it will resume direct daily flights to Damascus International Airport (DAM) starting June 1, 2025, marking the first scheduled service by a UAE national carrier to Syria in over a decade.
Flights will depart from Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport (DXB), reconnecting the UAE and Syria through regular commercial air service for the first time since operations were halted 12 years ago.
“We are very pleased to be the first national carrier to resume flights to Syria after 12 years,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai. “Damascus holds a special cultural and historical significance within the region, and we are excited to serve the city again with a direct daily service.”
Damascus was among the airline’s original routes, with services first launched in June 2009. The decision to resume operations follows the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority’s (GCAA) announcement in April to reestablish air connectivity between the two countries.
Jeyhun Efendi, Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations and E-commerce at flydubai, said the relaunch will provide greater travel flexibility to passengers across the airline’s network.
“We have worked closely with the relevant authorities to ensure that all operational standards have been met,” Efendi said. “We look forward to welcoming passengers back on board in time for the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday and peak summer travel season.”
flydubai currently operates flights to more than 120 destinations and continues to expand its regional footprint with a focus on underserved markets.
