Faydat Athqab Mosque in Hail Included in Second Phase of Historic Mosque Development Project

Hail, March 9, 2025 – The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historic Mosques has included the Faydat Athqab Mosque in Hail Region in its second phase, continuing its mission to preserve Islamic heritage and revitalize the cultural and social significance of historic mosques across the Kingdom.
Built in 1365 AH (1946 AD), the Faydat Athqab Mosque will undergo renovation using traditional architectural techniques characteristic of the Hail Region, employing sustainable, natural materials such as clay construction to adapt to the region's hot desert climate. The restoration will maintain the mosque's original spatial layout, preserving historical elements such as its northern windows, which were designed to capture and retain cool air.
As part of the second phase, Faydat Athqab Mosque is one of 30 historic mosques being restored across all 13 regions of Saudi Arabia. The project includes:
Six mosques in Riyadh
Five in Makkah
Four in Madinah
Three in Aseer
Two each in the Eastern Region, Al-Jouf, and Jazan
One each in the Northern Borders, Tabuk, Al-Baha, Najran, Hail, and Al-Qassim
This phase follows the successful completion of the first phase, which restored 30 mosques across 10 regions. The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project combines traditional craftsmanship with modern construction standards, ensuring the sustainability of historic mosques while preserving their architectural authenticity.
The initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritizes cultural heritage preservation and the integration of historic elements into modern mosque designs. Saudi companies specializing in heritage restoration are leading the development, ensuring the use of local expertise and authentic restoration techniques.
With its four strategic objectives—restoring historic mosques for worship, preserving architectural heritage, highlighting the Kingdom’s cultural history, and enhancing religious and cultural significance—the project continues to solidify Saudi Arabia’s commitment to safeguarding Islamic heritage for future generations.
