Eastern Region and Empty Quarter See Major Oil and Gas Discoveries, Minister of Energy Confirms

Riyadh, April 9, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Saudi Arabia has discovered fourteen new oil and gas fields and reservoirs in the Eastern Region and the Empty Quarter, according to an announcement on Tuesday by Minister of Energy His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. The discoveries include six oil fields, two oil reservoirs, two gas fields, and four gas reservoirs, reflecting the Kingdom’s continued strength in hydrocarbon exploration and production.

The Minister extended his congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on the discoveries, praising the Kingdom’s strategic and sustainable energy development.

In the Eastern Region, the newly discovered "Jabu" oil field produced 800 barrels per day (bpd) of Arabian Extra Light Oil from the “Jabu-1” well, while the "Sayahid-2" well at Sayahid oil field flowed at 630 bpd. The "Ayfan-2" well confirmed the discovery of the Ayfan oil field with a production rate of 2,840 bpd and 0.44 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) of associated gas per day.

Additionally, the “Berri-907” well revealed the “Jubaila” reservoir in the existing Berri field, producing 520 bpd of Arabian Light Oil with 0.2 MMscf of gas. The “Mazalij-64” well confirmed the Unayzah-A reservoir with 1,011 bpd of Arabian Super Light Oil and 0.92 MMscf of gas.

In the Empty Quarter, discoveries included the Nuwayr oil field, producing 1,800 bpd of Arabian Medium Oil and 0.55 MMscf of gas; Damda field, with oil flowing from two Mishrif reservoirs at 200 bpd and 115 bpd, respectively; and Qurqas field, yielding 210 bpd of Arabian Medium Oil.

On the natural gas front, the Ghizlan gas field in the Eastern Region produced 32 MMscf of gas per day and 2,525 barrels of condensate from the Unayzah B/C reservoir. The Araam gas field yielded 24 MMscf of gas and 3,000 barrels of condensate.

An unconventional gas reservoir in the Qusaiba formation at Mihwaz field produced 3.5 MMscf of gas per day with 485 barrels of condensate.

In the Empty Quarter, the Marzouq-8 well confirmed multiple gas reservoirs—Arab-C at 9.5 MMscf/day, Arab-D at 10 MMscf/day, and Upper Jubaila at 1.5 MMscf/day.

Prince Abdulaziz emphasized the strategic value of the discoveries, stating they strengthen the Kingdom’s leading role in the global energy sector and reinforce Saudi Arabia’s abundant hydrocarbon reserves. He affirmed that these findings will unlock new economic opportunities and enhance the Kingdom’s ability to meet growing domestic and international energy demand sustainably.

“These discoveries support the objectives of Vision 2030 by bolstering economic development, ensuring long-term energy security, and showcasing the Kingdom’s leadership in the energy sector,” the Minister said.
