Dubai Maritime Authority Launches Campaign to Ensure Safety as 2024-2025 Marine Sports Season Begins
Riyadh, October 2, 2024 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – The Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA), part of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has officially kicked off the 2024-2025 marine sports season, which is expected to draw millions of visitors to Dubai for a variety of water sports and activities. As part of the launch, the DMA has introduced a comprehensive awareness campaign to promote marine safety among sea-goers.
Nasser Al Neyadi, CEO of PCFC, emphasized the importance of creating a safe environment for all marine activities. “The Dubai Maritime Authority is committed to ensuring that everyone can enjoy water sports in a secure setting by following safety procedures designed to minimize risks,” Al Neyadi said. The campaign was initiated in response to the growing number of participants in marine activities during the peak season.
To enhance safety measures, the DMA is collaborating with maritime rescue authorities to ensure emergency preparedness and reduce the risk of drowning and injuries. The campaign provides safety guidelines for sea-goers, such as adhering to speed limits, wearing life jackets, and maintaining safe distances between vessels. Additionally, the DMA is offering free mooring buoys in various locations to facilitate recreational marine activities.
The DMA has also installed safety buoys to designate swimming zones and prevent boats and jet skis from entering restricted areas, ensuring the safety of swimmers. Furthermore, the authority stresses the importance of regular inspections of marine vessels, reporting trip schedules to local authorities, and complying with all safety regulations.
In addition to safety, the campaign highlights the importance of environmental conservation. Sea-goers are urged to avoid dumping waste or oil into the water, minimize noise pollution, and monitor weather conditions before setting sail. The DMA also reminds the public to avoid restricted zones and ensure clear navigation channels.
The campaign will distribute safety materials at sports centers and marine equipment retailers, and will be supported by a media and social media initiative aimed at reducing incidents of drowning and related injuries during Dubai’s marine sports season.
