JEDDAH, April 18 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – In a symbolic shift reflecting Jeddah’s ongoing urban and architectural evolution, the iconic “Crazy Speed” sculpture was removed from its original location on the northern corniche after standing for nearly four decades. The move comes as part of extensive developments tied to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, now recognized as the fastest and longest Formula 1 track in the world.

Created in the 1980s by renowned Spanish artist Julio Lafuente, the sculpture became one of the city's most recognized landmarks. Comprising five white concrete cars colliding with a central cube, the installation was designed as a powerful artistic commentary on the dangers of reckless driving. Its satirical visual style and bold public positioning made it a memorable cultural feature and popular photography spot.

While the sculpture has now been relocated, officials affirmed that its preservation underscores Jeddah’s commitment to maintaining its cultural heritage amid rapid development. “Crazy Speed” will continue to deliver its safety message from its new location, serving as a testament to Jeddah’s artistic history and urban identity.

The transformation of the sculpture’s original site is part of a larger effort to modernize the city’s infrastructure in support of global sporting events. The official spokesman for Jeddah Municipality stated that 40 roads totaling 46 kilometers have been developed in the Formula 1 zone and adjacent areas, across seven main districts. These upgrades are aligned with the city’s readiness to host world-class events, including the highly anticipated fifth edition of the Formula 1 stc Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The race, held on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, forms a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to position the Kingdom as a leading destination for sports, culture, and entertainment. The continued evolution of Jeddah’s urban landscape reflects broader national ambitions to foster a vibrant, livable environment for residents and visitors alike.
