Bahrain's Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Invites Ramadan Crescent Sighting

MANAMA, Bahrain - The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) of Bahrain has issued a formal invitation to the nation's residents to participate in sighting the crescent moon signifying the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan. Observations are to take place on the evening of Sunday, March 10th, 2024.

The SCIA's designated moon-sighting panel will convene on the preceding Saturday evening to receive testimonies and reports regarding the sighting of the new Ramadan crescent moon for the year 1445 AH. This sighting traditionally marks the beginning of the Islamic holy month of fasting.

The SCIA encourages all residents to participate in this significant tradition. Ramadan holds immense significance within the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of spiritual reflection, fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayer, and acts of charity. Due to its basis on the lunar calendar, the precise date of Ramadan's commencement varies slightly from year to year.

The official confirmation of Ramadan's commencement in Bahrain remains contingent upon the successful sighting and verification of the crescent moon by the designated committee.
