Australia to Recognize State of Palestine at UN General Assembly; New Zealand Considering Same Step

Riyadh, August 11, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced today that Australia will formally recognize the State of Palestine during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled for September.
Speaking before the Australian Parliament following a cabinet meeting, Albanese said the decision reaffirms Australia’s commitment to the two-state solution and acknowledges the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state.
He stressed that the move extends beyond symbolism, aiming to contribute to advancing the peace process in the Middle East.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters also announced today that his country is considering recognizing the State of Palestine. Peters said that Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s government will make a formal decision in September and present its position during the UN General Assembly.
