Riyadh, July 3 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – AlUla Governorate is preparing to host the upcoming edition of the AlUla Desert Blaze race on August 15–16, 2025, with more than 500 runners from around the world expected to compete in one of the region’s most challenging desert races.
Set against AlUla’s unique natural landscape, the event will guide participants through rocky canyons, sand dunes and oases, offering a distinctive sporting experience that combines endurance with views of historical and natural landmarks. The race is open to runners of all levels, with four categories: 5 km, 10 km, 21.1 km (half marathon) and 42.2 km (full marathon).
Each route highlights AlUla’s heritage and iconic sites. Runners in the 5 km, 10 km and half-marathon categories will begin at Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, crossing terrain rich in historical significance.
The full marathon will also start at Hegra and pass the Maraya Building, the world’s largest mirror-clad structure, which stands as a symbol of AlUla’s cultural and architectural transformation.
Organisers say the AlUla Desert Blaze reflects the governorate’s broader vision to position AlUla as a unique destination for sports, heritage and adventure tourism. For registration and more information, participants can visit: www.experiencealula.com.
