Riyadh, May 30, 2025 (Saudi Arabia Breaking News) – Al-Nassr are negotiating with Cristiano Ronaldo to extend his contract but face competition from multiple clubs interested in signing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, the Saudi club’s sporting director Fernando Hierro said on Thursday.
Speculation over the 40-year-old Portuguese forward’s future intensified after Al-Nassr’s season-ending match against Al-Fateh on Monday. Ronaldo posted on social media: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written.”
"Ronaldo’s contract with Al-Nassr runs until June 30. We will work to renew his contract so he can continue with us, and there are many clubs interested in signing him," Hierro told a news conference.
Although Al-Nassr did not qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated last week that discussions were ongoing regarding Ronaldo’s potential participation in the June 14–July 13 tournament in the United States.
FIFA has established a special transfer window allowing clubs to sign players specifically for the Club World Cup. Media reports have linked Wydad Casablanca with interest in Ronaldo; however, a source close to the Moroccan club told Reuters last week that no talks were underway.
Ronaldo has finished as top scorer for two consecutive seasons in the Saudi Pro League, solidifying his impact on Saudi football.
"Ronaldo’s presence from the beginning is a national project," Hierro said. “Cristiano has opened up football in this country to the world. It is phenomenal that he had the courage to come here, stay here, and open up the Saudi Arabian league to the world.”
