Abu Dhabi Classics 2024 Unveils Stellar Roster of International Classical Musicians


Abu Dhabi, UAE - The Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has proudly announced the opening performances for Abu Dhabi Classics 2024, a year-long celebration of classical music presented by Abu Dhabi Culture. This prestigious program promises a captivating season featuring a diverse array of leading international artists, further solidifying Abu Dhabi's position as a global cultural hub.


The program commences with a true highlight: the world-renowned Dutch violinist and conductor, André Rieu. Leading his Johann Strauss Orchestra, Rieu will grace the stage of Abu Dhabi's Etihad Arena on March 9th as part of his international tour. Presented by MAC Global, part of Sony Music Entertainment, this promises to be an enchanting evening transporting audiences to a world of timeless classical masterpieces.


Curated to cater to a wide range of musical preferences, Abu Dhabi Classics boasts a diverse program encompassing chamber music, film scores, and even family-friendly showcases. The family-oriented initiative kicks off with the "Family Concert: DuoCalva" on May 16th and 17th at Manarat Al Saadiyat. This unique performance features two former top orchestra cellists who have combined their talents to create a fun and engaging experience, making classical music accessible and enjoyable for younger generations.


Classical music enthusiasts can look forward to the highly-anticipated "Vikingur Olafsson: Solo Piano Recital" on May 28th at the Cultural Foundation. This marks the Icelandic pianist's UAE debut, where he will enthrall audiences with a solo performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's renowned Goldberg Variations, a challenging and revered piece within the piano repertoire.


In September, the "Lucerne Festival Quintet with Alexander Malofeev" promises a truly mesmerizing experience at Manarat Al Saadiyat on the 18th and 19th. This concert marks the regional debut of the acclaimed Russian pianist and composer, renowned for his technical virtuosity, expressive interpretations, and deep emotional connection to music. He will be joined by esteemed members of the prestigious Lucerne Festival Orchestra to perform Schubert's famous "Trout Quintet" alongside other captivating pieces from the Romantic period.


The 2024 season culminates in November with a spectacular performance by the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, South Korea's oldest and one of Asia's leading orchestras. Making their Abu Dhabi debut on November 7th and 8th at the Emirates Palace, they will be led by the renowned conductor Jaap van Zweden. The program features Shostakovich's powerful Symphony No. 5 in D Minor, while acclaimed violinist Sarah Chang joins the orchestra for a captivating rendition of Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor.


Presented by Abu Dhabi Culture, Abu Dhabi Classics underscores DCT Abu Dhabi's unwavering commitment to cultivating the emirate's position as a UNESCO-designated "City of Music." This year's program boasts a remarkable line-up of some of the world's most celebrated classical musicians, with further exciting announcements to come.
